Traveling to My Khe Beach, Da Nang

18 Aug

My Khe Beach, recognised as one of the most ideal beach when tourists visit Da Nang City, is huge beach with smooth sand and a slight slope. Behind My Khe beach is a dark green poplar forest, and beside, the Kinh River carries crystal water to the sea. It has coral, abundant plants and creatures along bankside and under sea.

Da Nang City has a coastline of 30 kilometres long, famous for a lot of beautiful seashores stretching from the north to the south like My Khe, Nam O, Xuan Thieu, Thanh Binh, Tien Sa, Son Tra, etc. They are calm seas with green and clear water during all seasons, not being polluted with 60% salination and high safety. With 900m in length, My Khe Beach is the most crowded of Da Nang beaches and popular to local people.

Located about 6km east of Da Nang, the Beach is a nine-kilometre stretch of smooth sand with an average width between 50m and 70m. The gradient is gentle, and its sheltered position in the lee of the Son Tra peninsula softens the autumn winds that restrict swimming further down the coast.

Behind the beach is a dark green poplar forest, and beside, the Kinh River carries crystal water to the sea. It has coral, abundant plants and creatures along bankside and under sea. Moreover, the beach is next to the city centre, in roads easy to come and by various means of transport. Sea water in My Khe is extremly cool with little wave so you can bath all year- round, especialy in summer between May and August. The lack of large waves, less than average pollution, and an annual average temperature around 25oC, makes it a safe place to swim for all adults and children.

With lots of hotels, pleasure-houses and various abundant services, creating favourable conditions for tourists in Vietnam tours to relax on the seashores. There are 50 well-equipped and comfortable bedrooms and many services in My Khe hotel. Lots of luxurious seaside villas with more than 100 rooms are available for families. Tourists can come here to play and rest at weekend. Around the hotel area, there is many eafood restaurants and stalls, and large numbers of local vendors traverse the beach selling all kinds of foods and drinks. Coastal specialties such as shrimps, crabs, fish, cuttles, etc. in hundreds of small shops are at reasonable price. They can be irritating sometimes – if they are too persistent, you should ignore the nuisance since that is the best strategy.

Before 1975 American soldiers occupied a part of the beach. They established some premises for their relaxation and recreations. With some enabling conditions such as being near the city’s center, beautiful landscapes, and qualified services (hotels, restaurants, vehicles keeping site, fresh water bathing, sunshade and buoy lease), My Khe Beach is now convenient for developing various services such as fishing, water-skiing, diving, yatch race and so on.

Banh Cuon (steamed rice rolls) – a favourited Vietnamese food

13 Aug

“Banh Cuon” looks like a soft spring roll, filled with a mixture of pork, onions, wood ear mushrooms, and fish sauce..It tastes delicious and the ingredients are actually common foods.

For many years, Bánh Cuốn (Vietnamese steamed rice rolls) has never stop to demonstrate its long-lasting perfect comfort food to food lovers in Vietnam Travel. For those are familiar with Bánh Cuốn, it become favourite breakfast food. For those have not yet ever try the dish, once taste it, you soon fall in love with its flavor.

How to make it?

Starting with a steamed rice roll cooked on a pot, covered by thin fabric, until it is very thin. Then it is scrapped off the pot with a flexible bamboo stick. After that, the roll is filled with a mixture of pork, wood ear mushrooms, onions, and fish sauce.

When and where to eat?

Banh cuon stands face their rush times during breakfast and dinner, so it is difficult to find stalls still selling the dish in late morning or evening.

Use your better judgment when eating from street vendors, but on average I find that banh cuon carts are some of the cleaner carts on the street, and wearing plastic gloves is a common practice among these vendors. A plate will usually cost between 15,000 and VND20,000 on the street and, if you are afraid of the carts, between 25,000 and VND50,000 in some local restaurant.

Cai Luong – Renovated Opera

9 Aug

In comparison with cheo (popular opera) and tuong (classical opera), cai luong is a new type of theatre in Vietnam, combining drama, modeled after French comedy, and singing.

Cai luong Viet Nam

Cai Luong (Renovated Opera) appeared in the southern part of Vietnam in the 1920s. Now, this form of music is a new type of theatre.

Scenes are elaborate and are changed frequently throughout the play. Cai luong is similar to the Western operettas and more easily depicts the inner feelings of the characters. Songs of the Cai luong are based on variations of a limited number, perhaps 20, of tunes with different tempos for particular emotions – thisconvention permits a composer to choose among 20 variations to express anger, and as many to portray joy.

The principal supporting songs in Cai Luong is the Vong Co (literally, nostalgia for the past). Cai luong owes much of its success to the sweet voices of the cast, much appreciated by the audience. Upon hearing the first bars of the well-loved Vong Co, the audience reacts with gasps of recognition and applause.

The Cai luong performance includes dances, songs, and music; the music originally drew its influences from southern folk music. Since then, the music of Cai luong has been enriched with hundreds of new tunes. A Cai luong orchestra consists mainly of guitarswith concave frets, and danakim.

Over the years, Cai luong has experienced a number of changes to become a type of stage performance highly appreciated by the Vietnamese people as well as foreign visitors in Vietnam tourism.

Vietnamese Embroidery Painting

Vietnamese Embroidery Painting

9 Aug

Worked completely by hand, each embroidery painting is intricately stitched using select strands of silk or cotton thread in coordinated colors and hues reflective of the scene being depicted.

Viewed from a distance, our Vietnamese silk “embroidery paintings” are often easily mistaken for the handiwork of an artist’s brush magically blending raw color into a timeless masterpiece. But up close, the eye feasts on the intricate density of thousands of silk strands exquisitely embroidered on cloth in such a way that the detail in the hand work rivals the detail of the imagery itself.

In face, you must hold the embroidery in your hands, feel its weight, to properly understand that thousands of tiny hand-stitches can blend together to form such authentic art.

For each embroidery artist, thread is their paint, the needle is their brush. With extraordinary patience, the artist  selects carefully each thread they use, and in several cases may incorporate up to 500 different types and colors of thread into each piece of art.

The paintings can take from three weeks to several months to complete, and require that the artist be not only a highly-skilled needle artist, but have the “eye”and artistic talent to accurately render the scene before them.

By means of comparison,  the work of embroidery painting is more difficult than any other form of embroidery, requires much more patience than either sculpting or traditional painting do. And only in Vietnam tourism will you find this particular embroidery technique.

Hand embroidery holds a unique place in Vietnam’s cultural history. Along with cooking and sewing, it is one of the most popular extra-curricular activities in which young high-school girls engage.

Since the 1960’s, hand embroidery painting in Vietnam has been raised to the level of an art, and many male and female are all embroidery artists. Look in on our gallery of pictures.

Embroidery paintings from World Threads are guaranteed to brighten up any home, and certainly that you will enjoy the unique and artistic value of these masterpieces.
